The first scientific name appeared in 2012. The birthplace of banana cricket is Ecuador. Later, insect began to breed in Berlin, and then in Russia. It belongs to the order of Orthoptera, the family of crickets.

Appearance:

• body length reaches 25 mm, but on average an adult grows 18-22 mm;
• have an elongated body shape and tan;
• characterized by a large disproportionate head with a developed oral apparatus of a gnawing type.

Nutrition

Brownies and banana crickets prefer plant foods. Most of all they like cucumbers, carrots and lettuce. Also, insects will not give up fruits: apples, pears and some citrus representatives.

Breeders can diversify the food of their pets in the summer, when fresh greens, dandelions, burdocks and other plants begin to grow on the street.

In addition to plant foods, banana crickets need a high protein content, which allows full development of larvae and adults. If a person ignores this need for insects, they will begin to eat corpses of their own kind, as well as destroy the oviposition of females.

Some owners even offer their pets dry foods intended for cats and dogs. In this case, it is extremely important to maintain an adequate drinking regime.

Conventional drinking bowls are categorically not suitable for this species, since they can drown in them. At the bottom of the container must be laid gauze or cotton cloth.

Conditions of detention

Crickets do not require serious conditions for full life support. Life expectancy never exceeds 90 days.

1. High temperature is a prerequisite for the activity of individuals. The optimum is 25-26 degrees, at lower values, insects hibernate or die.
2. Be sure to maintain sufficient humidity in the home. Without it, larvae will not appear from eggs, and larvae will not turn into adults crickets.
3. It is also important to provide pets with sufficient daylight. The daylight hours should not be less than 16 hours.
4. Banana crickets lead an isolated lifestyle. To do this, it is necessary to provide each representative with their own square centimeters. It is optimal to use egg cartons for these purposes.

Individuals cannot live in conditions of increased pollution; therefore, it is necessary to regularly clean the containers for maintenance and preventive measures to maintain cleanliness.
