The peculiarity of the digestive system of mice is such that the animals do not tolerate hunger, eat 5 times a day, every day they need to drink at least 15 ml of water. Such a “brutal” appetite of a small creature is associated with an accelerated metabolism. This factor is genetically determined and affects life expectancy. Under the most favorable conditions, the mouse cannot live longer than 5 years. The following factors shorten this duration:
- Nutrition. A pet provides regular, nutritious nutrition to its owner. In the wild, a little mouse takes care of itself. And it’s not always possible to get a balanced feed. Malnutrition shortens the life span of mice. In the wild, in a relatively favorable environment, the animal reaches the age of 3 years.
- Reproduction of offspring. The mouse becomes sexually mature 20 days after its birth. Pregnancy lasts about the same. Each litter has 3 to 11 cubs. 18 days after birth, the female is again ready for fertilization. However, the animal’s life cycle is affected by the number of pregnancies per year, the number of cubs, and the female’s health status. In the wild, a mouse reproduces a maximum of 3 offspring per year. The process is activated in the summer. An increase in this indicator significantly weakens the health of the mouse.
- Living conditions. Mice adapt well to any environment, tolerate heat and cold relatively well, and live everywhere. All this thanks to the accelerated metabolism. However, climatic factors affect the period of life in nature, the ability to equip comfortable housing.
- Threats and risks. The little rodent has many enemies in the wild - birds, foxes, wolves, dogs, hedgehogs eat mice. No less dangers in a person’s house - a cat, poison for mice, cell traps, traps. Weather disasters threaten life - floods, fires, frosts, early frosts.
Taking into account all factors, scientists have established a life span - 5 years, mice live in the home environment as a pet, 3 years in the wild. Since favorable conditions in the natural habitat are rarely established, the average life span of mice is only 1 year.
The effect of nutrition
It is recommended that your pet give a ready balanced meal. Since the mouse should eat in one day:
- greens - 6 g;
- grain - 12 g;
- succulent feed - 3 g;
- cereals - 3 g;
- flour, including bone - 0.3 g;
- fish oil - 0.1 g;
- milk - 10 g;
- salt - 0.1 g;
- bread - 1.8 g;
- feed yeast - 0.2 g.
Nuts, seeds give periodically. Abuse of these products leads to obesity.
The mouse is called an omnivore. Leaving it without food is almost impossible. To make up for my energy, mice eat everythingthat can nibble. With the threat of hunger in the wild, rodents move closer to the house of a person. You can always find food there.Assuming that the most unfavorable conditions have arisen, the mouse can live without food for about 10 days.

It is much more dangerous for the animal to be without water. In the absence of fluid in the wild, the mouse eats juicy parts of the plant. A pet locked in a cage, devoid of drinking, is in much worse conditions. How long an animal can survive without liquid is also interesting. The mouse lives without food and water for no more than 3 days.
Life threat
To catch pests, a person resorts to various methods, methods. Traps are ready to kill the mouse immediately or severely cripple. As a result, the animal dies during the day. Traps leave mice unscathed when it comes to the modern adhesive base.

My mouse died in a week while I was on a business trip. The drinking bowl clogged, water did not come to her. Now I am tormented by the question - died of thirst or by age. How old she was unknown. Trapped and tamed.

My mouse lived without water for 3 days, did not die. I forgot to add to the drinker. But left the grass. Maybe this saved her.

If someone expects that the mice in the house themselves will die, it will not work. Leave without food, water is unrealistic. They will gnaw things, they will ruin the house.
Well, yes, they chew on paper, sharpen plastic, wood, in general, is a favorite treat. And they don’t have much water.
I am very afraid for my darling. I’m leaving for 2 days on weekends, I put her food, I pour water. But somehow I arrived, and the drinking bowl was upside down. She was terribly scared for her Mimi, if this would harm her. I read, calmed down.
