Green mosquito bells (mosquito-jerking)

Zvonets mosquito is a small insect of the diptera squad. Recognize him among others types of mosquitoes possible by the characteristic sound during the flight. The bells flap their wings so often that sometimes this figure reaches 1000 times in 1 second.

Features

The bells are green mosquitoes, the body size does not exceed 1 cm. Sometimes the color is gray, yellow or black. The family of jugglers totals more than 3000 species. These are quite hardy individuals, which can be found almost anywhere in the world. They are representatives of the largest population of Antarctica. Also, green mosquito larvae are able to survive high temperatures, heat, frost and complete drying. They have an amazing ability to survive.

In literary sources, this species can also be found under the name of jerks or chironomids. They became called jerks due to the behavior. These individuals never rest on their forelegs. During landing, the belfry is placed on the hind limbs, and the front ones are always directed upwards. As a result, the body is constantly twitching. For this, green mosquitoes got their second name. Chironomids is the Latin name for dipterans.

Mosquito-dergun can have various external features. This diversity is due to the wide habitat of individuals. Life cycle

The mosquito-dergun has a very short life cycle. Most of its individuals spend in larval stage. After reaching adulthood, adults can live about 2-3 days.

The larva of the caller leads an active lifestyle. It occurs in any type of pond, manure, on trees, as well as many other wet substrates. Most individuals feed on sludge filtrate.

An adult female dies immediately after laying eggs. The place where the continuer of the clan produces masonry is silt. A distinctive feature of the laying of green mosquitoes is that all the eggs are dressed in a common gelatinous mass. After the birth of the larvae acquire a red color. This is due to the presence of hemoglobin, which allows representatives of the callers to live even in conditions with a limited amount of oxygen.

Life span of mosquitoes males reaches 2 years, but this is rare. Most callers die a few days after growing up. This is due to the lack of formation of the oral apparatus, which does not allow the imago of the jerking to consume any food. Sometimes a ringer at the stage of an adult insect uses honey dew or flower nectar as a source of nutrition, which allows them to extend their life.

Benefits and harm to humans

Green mosquitoes do not pose a direct threat to humans. They are not able to bite him and thereby cause discomfort.But a large number of representatives of this family can still cause some inconvenience. The bells live in large swarms, so meeting with them is very unpleasant for a person. They climb into the face, eyes, nose, ears.

Calls deliver particular discomfort to residents of the Sea of ​​Azov. Insect populations in this region are very large, which is associated with numerous estuaries and other water bodies.

But the larvae of jerks are more popular and may even be beneficial. They are actively used as food for aquarium fish. They are also an important link in the food chain for many birds, fish and small amphibians.
