Among the many chemical preparations for pests, several of the most effective ones can be distinguished. One of these is Actara from the Colorado potato beetle. Swiss product is a synthetic neonicotinoid. To many other neonicotinoid preparations, the leaf beetle develops resistance and acquires immunity over time. In this case, the chemical substance thiamethoxam, which is part of Aktara, has a different mechanism of action on insects. He does not allow Colorado potato beetle develop immunity. In addition, thiamethoxam positively affects the plant itself and its development.

Actara's principle of operation

The Aktara remedy for the Colorado potato beetle is used to spray tops of plants or to water the ground under the root. Getting on the surface of the leaf or in the soil, the drug actively penetrates the plant and is evenly distributed throughout the shoot. All types of pests that have contact with the plant, in one way or another, are exposed to toxic effects:

• sucking insects (aphids, cicada, squirrel);
• gnawing pests (Colorado potato beetle, drunkard, flea);
• mining parasites (moths) and other insects.

Once in the beetle’s body, Aktara’s active substance paralyzes its digestive system within half an hour, which is why the insect ceases to eat. A day later, the beetle dies of hunger.

High insecticidal activity of the drug, due to which the poison is distributed in the tissues of the plant, is a protection for potatoes for 3-4 weeks. After this period, the content of toxins in potatoes or other vegetable crops becomes minimal.

Method of using the drug

Preparation of a solution for processing vegetables against colorado potato beetle does not take much time. Instructions for use describe in detail all the actions in order:

1. It is necessary to breed means on the street.
2. In a two-liter container, dilute the contents of one packet of 4 grams with one liter of water and mix. This will be the initial solution of Actara.
3. Pour one quarter of the water into the five-liter capacity of a special sprayer. Then add 200 ml of the initial solution and add water to fill the entire volume of the sprayer. The resulting liquid is sprayed with green shoots of plants.
4. For watering under the root, you need to take a bucket with 10 liters of water and dissolve 2 bags with Aktara in it, only 8 grams. Pour 400-500 ml of each potato bush with this mixture.

Important!

Processing the garden with an insecticide should be carried out in the morning or in the evening in dry and calm weather. During or after rain, the use of the product will not have any effect on pests.

Precautionary measures

Despite the low toxicity of the drug, Actara can cause harm to human health if you do not follow strict rules for its use:

• do not deal with processing for children under 18 years of age, pregnant and lactating women;
• avoid contact with the drug to pets;
• people with hypersensitivity to chemical components should refrain from using the product;
• a mandatory condition for the use of Actara is personal protective equipment: respirator, mask, gloves, thick clothing;
• during processing, you should not eat, drink, smoke;
• upon completion of all work, it is necessary to wash all clothes, wash shoes, wash hands and face with soap, rinse your mouth with water;
• thoroughly rinse, dry and store all equipment that was used to prepare the solution and spray;
• Dispose of packaging from the product.

Actara has no harmful effects on birds, earthworms, fish and aquatic invertebrates. If necessary, processing can be repeated after a month, but no later than 14 days before harvesting.

Important!

For bees, the insecticide is dangerous, and the border zone should be at least 4-5 km.

Actara for potatoes is available in water dispersible capsules, packed in individual foil packaging of 4 grams. Also on sale are large bottles of 250 grams of the product.
