Features of the drug
Frontline for dogs and puppies is produced by the famous French company Merial. Frontline Drops is an insecticide and acaricide used to combat various types of parasites: ticks, lice, beetle eaters. Its basis is fipronil - an insecticide, the effect of which leads to paralysis, and subsequently to the death of insects. It does not penetrate the blood of the animal, accumulating in the sebaceous glands and epidermal cells.
Frontline combo drops for dogs of a similar property, which in addition to fipronil contain S-metoprene (the active substance is dangerous for fleas, as it destroys their chitinous integuments). Also, the composition of antiparasitic drops includes auxiliary components in the form of polysorbate, polyvidone and other components.
After a day after application, the drug is distributed over the surface of the skin of the pet, killing the parasites that live on it. This tool is also used for preventive purposes: it protects dogs from ticks for a month, from fleas for 3 months.
Most often, Frontline and its variation of Frontline combo are produced in polyethylene pipettes with different dosages. The required amount of funds is selected in accordance with the weight of the dog. For pets from 2 to 10 kg, 0.67 ml will be needed. A double dose (1.34 ml) is necessary for the treatment of animals weighing 10-20 kg. For dogs, whose mass is 20-40 kg, 2.68 ml of the drug will be required. And for animals whose weight exceeds these values, the required dose will be 4.02 ml. The combination of two pipettes will be needed if the dog weighs over 60 kg.
Application rules
To obtain the expected effect, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the rules indicated by the instructions for the use of Frontline drops for dogs.
- Choose the appropriate dose for the weight of the animal. Wear protective gloves.
- Break off the pipette nozzle along the notch. Drops are applied directly to the skin of the animal in a place inaccessible to licking (usually the drug is dripped at the withers). It is important that the skin was dry at that moment, without wounds and abrasions.
- To achieve maximum effect, Frontline treated animals are not recommended for bathing for 2 days. Otherwise, the coat will clump, and the medicine will not have time to absorb into the skin. Contact of the treated pet with small children is also unsafe, so it is better to limit it.
Flea Drops - The period of exposure to parasites lasts for 60 days. The death of arthropods is observed after 1-2 days.
- Front Line Drops are also used to treat dogs infected with ear mites. Having instilled 4 drops in each ear of the pet, the auricle is bent and massaged, trying to evenly distribute the medicine.
- Precautions must be taken during the procedure. It is very important to prevent drops from entering the mucous membranes.If such an incident did occur, it is urgent to wash off the insecticide with plenty of water. At the end of the process of treating the dog with Front Line drops, wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
- During the procedure, it is not recommended to eat and drink. Cigarette smoking is also contraindicated at this moment.
- Retreatment with a veterinary preparation is carried out no earlier than a month later. For preventive purposes, you can treat your pet every 3 months.
- Frontline drops are contraindicated in combination with an antiparasitic collar.
